Our Role

The mandate of the OmbudService for Life & Health Insurance is to provide free, prompt and impartial assistance with consumer complaints and information enquiries. We do not advocate for either the consumer or the insurance company.

Our role in complaints handling is to guide consumers through the industry wide complaints resolution process by providing:

  1. clarification and information in response to general concerns or complaints pertaining to Canadian life and health insurance products and services, including life, disability, employee health benefits, travel, and insurance investment products such as annuities and segregated funds;

  2. advice on how to contact and approach a life and heath insurance company to have a complaint addressed; and

  3. an independent complaints resolution process for those consumers whose complaint or concern is not resolved to their satisfaction by their life and health insurance company.

Our role in information handling is to provide general information on life and health insurance products and services, including life, disability, employee health benefits, travel, and  insurance investment products such as annuities and segregated funds.
